Iowa Theatre Artists Company Announces
March Fundraiser

Amana:  The Iowa Theatre Artists Company of Amana will be offering two special performances of Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology on Friday, March 26 at 7:30 PM and Saturday, March 27 at 1:30 PM.  The two shows are being produced as a fundraiser for the ITAC 2010 Season, which will begin on May 7.  The third season of this professional theatre company will feature a variety of work that will offer comedy, drama, music and even one original, interactive summer event with catered dining.

The Iowa Theatre Artists Company will present a an engaging readers’ theatre production of Spoon River Anthology.  The play, published in 1915, is a collection of short stories or epitaphs about the people of Spoon River, who from their final resting place, offer a glimpse into their lives on earth.  No longer burdened with any fear of consequence, the honesty and revealing brief histories offered by the graveyard’s inhabitants are often humorous, poignant and insightful. The relationships and interweaving of some of their lives adds yet another detailed look into their past. There is also an abundance of traditional folk music and songs that will be featured throughout the show.  The Great Bluegrass Herons, comprised of the husband and wife teams of Julie and Paul Roberts of Sharon Center, and Janet and Mark Wilson of Hills will provide a major portion of the music and singing, as well as some of the storytelling of the inhabitants of Spoon River.  Fellow members of the acting company are Meg Merckens and Tom Johnson, co-producers of the Iowa Theatre Artists Company and Iowa artists, Lyle Fisher, Cedar Rapids, Rachael Lindhart, Iowa City and Ryan Westwood of Bettendorf.  Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased through the ITAC Box Office by calling: 319-622-3222. Tickets are also available by emailing: itac@southslope.net  A wine-tasting presented by Collectively Iowa, a company that has recently moved into the first floor of the Performing Arts Center building, will be offered prior to the Friday evening show and after the Saturday matinee.

All proceeds from the above events will go toward ITAC Programming and Education, which includes  theatrical productions, musical events and a college internship program.  The Iowa Theatre Artists Company is a small, professional not-for-profit theatre operating as a 501(c)3 organization since 2008.  2010 will mark its third year of producing live theatre in Eastern Iowa, and its second season in its new home in the former Barn Restaurant in the heart of Amana.
